Day 5: Serengeti—Ngorongoro

After breakfast you will depart for Ngorongoro crater with an enroute game drive from your lodge in Serengeti through the southern Serengeti. The crater supports up to 25,000 large mammals. Grazers dominate: zebra, wildebeest – accounting for almost half the animals – gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest and wart hog. Giraffe, for example, stay away because there is insufficient food at tree level; Topi because they compete directly with wildebeest. An odd feature of the crater elephants is that they are almost exclusively bulls. Breeding herds – comprising large numbers of females and young with a few attendant older males – are probably unable to find sufficient quality food in the crater. Ngorongoro has carnivores in quantity, drawn by the large herds of prey animals. It has the densest population of large predators, mainly lion – about 100 – and more than 400 spotted hyenas, living in eight clans of up to eighty individuals. Both lions and hyenas will scavenge from each other, depending on weight of numbers and of course, hunger. In the early evening drive to your lodge.

Day 6: Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara

Today after your breakfast, you will head to Lake Manyara National Park approximately 1.5 hours away and spend the day game driving through the lush groundwater forest. Lake Manyara is famous for its tree climbing lions although the likelihood of seeing lions on a tree is greater in the Serengeti than at Manyara due to the dense forest making visibility difficult.

Birdlife is abundant as are the number of baboons and other primates! Optional cultural activities are available at the village of Mto wa Mbu located just outside of Lake Manyara National Park including tour of banana farms, local markets and local village life.
Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge

Day 7: Lake Manyara – Amboseli National Park.

You will depart for Amboseli right after breakfast through the Namanga border. Amboseli is located at the shadow of and has the best views of Mount Kilimanjaro. There are swamps below the observation hill hosting large herds of elephants, buffalos and hippos. You will arrive at Amboseli with an afternoon game drive after which you will check in at the hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Dinner and overnight at Kibo Safari Camp.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner.

Day 8: Amboseli National Park.

After your breakfast, you will embark on a game drive in search of wild animals with great opportunity of taking their photos against a background of the Africa’s highest mountain. This will continue until lunch time when you will get back to the camp for your lunch followed by a brief rest at the camp.
An evening game drive always gives visitors a chance to see animals more active after emerging from their hideouts where they take shelter from the midday sunlight. There is always a high chance of seeing the cats hunting either in the morning or evenings.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 9: Amboseli National Park – Nairobi.

This day you will be woken up early for your breakfast and then proceed for morning game drive to spot the nocturnal animals before they hide. After exiting the park, you will head direct to Nairobi with picnic lunch on the way.
